Docks are going IN

It’s time to get the Docks In!!! Saturday 23 March 8AM. Club clean up and a bit of rigging will also be attended to. Come ready to get the club ship shape for spring! There will be a list of tasks to be posted on Saturday and each program will be assisting in the various areas (docks, safety equipment, boats, ergs, change rooms, weight room, compound, etc…). We will also be attempting to adjust some of the rocks beneath the end of the docks so they will lower properly in the fall.

First row of the year will be April 1st for members who have registered, paid, and cleared safety procedures (same as always).

Other Important Information (more details will be sent out):

Sun Mar 24 – Come support the Leander runners around the bay! Truck and tent are planed to be set up around the Eastport/Northshore corner.
Sat Mar 31 – Coxie clinic (for all coxies experienced/novice).
Sat Apr 6 – VHF radio course starting at 10am (location TBD).

Hello my fellow rowers!!!

Let me introduce myself …I am Hajnalka, I started rowing at Leander this season thanks to my daughter Madison who also rows Leander. I have been involved with the juniors and theirs families for over a year now and we all agree that we have become a “rowing family”. That being said, I want to personally invite all the members of Leander to come out and meet each other on Sunday March 24 and cheer on the courage’s athletes from our club who will be representing us at the Around the Bay Race. We have Masters, Seniors, and Juniors who have been training super duper hard..I know that the juniors train 5 mornings high school rowing, 2-3 evenings Leander rowing and running 2 times a week. For all the hard work they have done for our club the least we NEED to do is be there to cheer them all on to show our appreciation for them. Also that can be the day that my rowing family can grow. I know I have not met many of you, or you have not met the rest of the members and their families, so lets all come out and see what and who we have been missing out on. We have such a wonderful opportunity to have such a great community with the people we share so much in common with…lets show everyone that rowing Leander means team, working together and supporting each other no matter what!!!

All that being said , on race day we will have a Leander tent where we can all meet up, we have a very large banner that was made by a family from our club(thank you to the Hageman Family). The location of the tent is unknown at this moment. What I think would be great if you all could please respond to this email and let me know you can come so then I can look out for you and do some introductions. Also any ideas would also be appreciated .

Joanne Keenan….what can I say..other than, thank you, thank you, thank you! You have been there for our kids teaching and training them not only for this incredible race but also the lives ahead of them. We are blessed to have you in our lives, and I guarantee that those kids will never forget you, you have made a ginormous imprint in their lives..and that also goes for Andrea, Craig and Aubs!

I can not wait to hear from you all…

I am truly excited to see us all come together as one big ROWING FAMILY!!!!!

The Leander Boat Club Erg Competition with take place on Sunday, February 10, 2013. Athlete registration and weigh-ins will be held in the Members’ lounge starting at 8:00AM. The first race of the day is scheduled to start at 10:00AM.

Click on the entry form link to download the entry form LEANDER INDOOR ROWING Entry Form 2013. Completed entry forms should be emailed to: leanderindoors@gmail.com. Your entry fee is payable onsite by cash or cheque.

Refreshments will be on sale during the competition.

The 2013 coaching team will be introduced. Training and competition expectations and objectives will be presented, explained and discussed.

A Holiday Challenge For the Erg

The Details

Row and/or ski 100,000 meters or 200,000 meters from November 22 to 11:59 p.m. ET December 24.
Support great causes with your meters!
You do not need to be on a team to participate! Log your individual meters.
Indoor rower and SkiErg meters only (no on water/on snow meters please). You can combine meters from each machine to reach the challenge goal.
Kid’s Holiday Challenge allows kids (aged 16 and under) to participate at 50,000 meters.
Adaptive athletes can choose to participate at the 50k, 100k, or 200k levels.
Deadline for entering meters: January 4th

You must have an Online Logbook at concept2.com (it’s FREE!) and all of your meters must be entered into your Online Logbook. If you don’t already have one, visit the Online Logbook home page, click Register under New User and follow the directions. Kids Challenge participants need to set up an individual logbook (using a parent’s email address is fine).

Turkey Roll Time (Updated)

Leander Boat Club’s annual Turkey Roll Fund Raiser is scheduled for Saturday, November 24th. Doors open at 7:30 and the first turkeys will be drawn at 8:00.

ADMISSION is just $5 and puts in the draw to Win-a-Turkey (55 available). Light Snacks are included along with a Cash bar. This year we will have a new game and lots of prizes to be won. We’re calling it: “Toonie A Turn Auction” where you could win spending as little as $4. If you’ve played this game before you know how much fun it is…if you haven’t played before…come and give it a try!

Our light snack is supported by Fortino’s – Main Street, Oakrun Farm Bakery, Sweet Paradise Bakery and Fiddes Wholesale Produce.

At this year’s Turkey Roll we will be playing a new game for prizes instead of a traditional Prize Table. It is called the “Toonie a Try Auction” and here is how it works.

The Auctioneer announces the item to be “bid on” and gives a brief description. Each person who is interested in “winning” that item puts $2 -for each paddle he/she is using- into the bucket and then stands up holding their paddle(s).

The Auctioneer then pulls a number from the set of PADDLE numbers. The person with that paddle number stays standing and the rest sit down-they are now “Eliminated” (out) for the rest of the auction round for that item.

Each person still standing puts in another $2 to continue playing; or, if they choose not to pay the extra $2, they sit down and are also “Eliminated” (out) for the remainder of the round for the current item being “auctioned”. Next, the auctioneer pulls a number from the set of TABLE numbers; the person at that table is then the successful winner of that auction item. If there isn’t someone still standing at the “winning” table – because not all paddles may have been used for that item or; they may have chosen to sit down- then another $2 is paid before drawing a new table number. This step is repeated until the item has been awarded.

It’s going to be fun, fun, fun!! Bring your Toonies and plan to play.

Prizes ranging from $20 up to $160 will be auctioning off in the “Toonie a Try Auction”. There is something for everyone and a great place to start your Christmas shopping.
